Research Room The Books, Manuscripts, Microfilms and Indexes listed here are part of the Interlaken Historical Society Maurice L. Patterson Genealogy Reference Room. This list is not a complete list of all titles or items in the collection; it is a suggestion for getting started with your research. Use this page to begin planning your visit to the Historical Society and Research Room. Remember, many of the works in the collection are copyrighted. Do not abuse that copyright. Family Histories The Interlaken Historical Society and the Interlaken Public Library have an extensive collection of Family Histories. These include published histories dating from the late 1800s to recently released histories giving information on families into the 1990s. Many of the surnames in the manuscript collection, may be researched on this page. There are also unpublished manuscripts available in the Research Room. A word of caution in using these works: If you take notes from them, be sure to include any source notations for the information. With any published work dates can be correct in the first/primary source (i.e. Family Bible Records), but after transcribing, typesetting or other method of publishing, the date, location or some portion of the record may have changed and that change can effect the final outcome. Newspapers, Microfilmed and Indexed We have three area newspapers available on microfilm: Interlaken Review (originally the Farmer Review), 1887 to 1989; Ovid Independent and Gazette (1822-1964); and the Trumansburg Free Press and Sentinel (1827- present). On October 1, 1964 the Ovid Gazette and the Interlaken Review became the same paper. Beginning in 1990 the Trumansburg Free Press is the same newspaper as the Interlaken Review & Ovid Gazette, only the mast head is different. When you visit the Research Room you are welcome to search the database index for the Interlaken Review 1887—1989 and the Ovid Gazette 1822-1964. Not all issues were extinct when the films were made and occasionally a previous researcher removed an article of their interest. The index lists both family records and information on local events. You can also use the printed copy of Bernece B. Weitzel’s Index to Trumansburg Newspapers 1827-1940, (2003 edition).
